On March 4, Lt. Governor Patty Judge announced that Belle Plaine was one of four communities recently selected to join the Main Street Iowa program along with Mount Vernon, Washington, and Woodbine. See the entire press release.
The Downtown Task Force is carefully reviewing the Master Plan. Meanwhile, the City presented their application to Main Street Iowa on February 12th (www.iowalifechanging.com/community/mainstreetiowa/) to become a Main Street Community.
The draft of the Downtown Master is complete. The Task Force will be reviewing the document during the next several weeks. Contact City Hall for a copy of the plan.

RDG Planning & Design are refining concepts and writing sections of the plan. They anticipate a draft of the document to be completed in October. Comments or questions regarding the Downtown Plan can be submitted to Bill Daily at cityadminbp@netins.net.

Focus Groups held on Friday, April 27th.
Thank you to everyone who participated. A vital part of the goal-setting process was a program of five focus groups, inviting members of Belle Plaine to discuss Downtown’s future in informal, round-table discussions. The focus group proceedings are integrated into all elements of this Downtown Plan.
A report of the planning process will be posted in the future. The major themes rising from the focus groups include:
Public and Private Partnership
Accessibility
Building Stock
Business Development and Redevelopment
Streetscape and Urban Design
Downtown as a Destination
Downtown Belle Plaine Looks To the Future
Preparing the Downtown Plan will take approximately 9 months. Much of the public participation is happening in the Spring and Summer 2007. Concepts and strategies for downtown will begin rolling out in July 2007. Keep your eye out for a public presentation of the plan's concept in July.
