In December 2007, the Detroit Lakes Development Authority (DLDA) and the City of Detroit Lakes retained RDG Planning & Design to prepare a Master Plan for improving Downtown and the West Lake Drive areas. After hours of meetings, weeks of analyzing data and markets, and months of designing concepts, RDG presented concepts and strategies for improving Detroit Lakes on Wednesday, September 24th. Download the presentation. The DLDA and City encourage you to provide them feedback. Contact Larry Remmen at 846-7125 or e-mail lremmen@lakesnet.net.

Where do we go from here?
During the next month, RDG will be writing a document that describes the concepts in more detail. This document will become a roadmap for implementing the downtown plan. It will include several chapters, including:
1) Markets for Detroit Lakes (projections for population, housing, retail, and office demand)
2) Existing Conditions (physical condition)
3) Strategic Planning (summary of the public's involvement)
4) A Master Plan (concepts for improving Detroit Lakes)
5) Implementation (cost estimates, funding strategies, priorities and schedule)
