System Concept (March, 2011 Revision)
System Concept (March, 2011 Revision)
The updated System Concept Map uses the information that we gathered during the charrettes, considers other information like traffic volumes and street widths, and creates a concept for a citywide bikeways network. The colors represent continuous routes (almost like transit lines) that connect different destinations. Each route may use a number of infrastructure types (bike lanes, bicycle boulevards, trail segments, etc.), and their specific design is the next part of the planning process. The colors and numbers identify point-to-point routes or loops, which are part of the graphic and wayfinding system that will help cyclists navigate through the system. It works almost like a bus or subway map. The plan will detail each of these routes, showing their specific design treatments (trails, sidepaths, bicycle tracks, bike lanes, shared lanes, bicycle boulevards) and the destinations they serve. Dotted black lines are connecting segments that link the main bike routes together. The map also shows existing and proposed trails that are critical are also shown.
Some of the routes are on streets that are planned, but not yet built, or involve new trail segments. Please read this as a future planning diagram, not as a description of existing conditions. The idea is an overall system that we will move toward in stages. We need your comments and suggestions as we continue to refine the system. Thanks for your help.
