Des Moines

Natural wood, raw steel and exposed brick give our Des Moines office an open, loft-like quality. But it’s not just how it looks, it’s how it feels that visitors respond to. There’s an energy here that comes from creative people working together on a shared goal. On any given day, you’ll find parked bicycles, teams having impromptu meetings, and the occasional friendly dog within our walls. It’s a place that’s open, inviting and always alive with ideas.

Open Doors, Open Minds

Because we’re such a diverse group with different areas of expertise, our office is designed to encourage communication and collaboration. There are very few doors or barriers between our workspaces. Instead, central teaming areas allow architects, engineers, and interior, graphic, lighting and landscape designers to work together on a project from the start.

Our office also showcases the sustainable design concepts we integrate into our projects, including lighting and daylighting strategies, sustainable materials, and water-efficient plumbing fixtures. In addition, we reused many of the building’s existing brick walls, wood columns and joists.

Strong Relationships

We respect each other and our clients. We believe family is important. And although we work hard, we also have a lot of fun. Bike to work day, summer cookouts in the courtyard, ISU football tailgating and ice skating at Brenton Skating Plaza … throughout the year, we take time to stay connected with each other and the community. Whether we’re sharing our secret recipe at the St. Patrick’s Day chili cook-off or transforming the office to welcome our clients for the annual open house, we share a bond that makes a difference in everything we do.

Giving Back

RDG staff give their time and talent to a vast range of activities, from blood drives and Habitat for Humanity to guest lecturing at universities and coaching youth sports. In fact, giving back to the communities that have provided opportunities for us is one of our core principles. Our people are actively involved in local schools, churches, neighborhood associations and professional organizations — and volunteer for a variety of charities. RDG has also been instrumental in assisting ChildVoice International with the design and development of a new community to help women and children silenced by war in Northern Uganda.

Historic Office

Our downtown Des Moines office is in a renovated 1907 industrial building that blends an interactive, modern workspace with a sense of its historical past. The auto dealership showroom that was added in the 1930s is now a light-filled conference room, and the main entrance, stairs and ramp are reminiscent of the building’s days as a parking garage.
