The Deadwood Alive project is a collaborative process including the citizens of Deadwood, the Deadwood revitalization committee and consultants.

From the study came several basic conclusions: the center of Deadwood is more than the historic segment of Main Street; Deadwood is a sequence of public spaces, each with special attributes and actual or potential roles in the fabric of the City; and community investment in public spaces should serve both community and visitor needs. Deadwood's public space concept includes a sequence of spaces, each beautiful but each a little different and connected to one another. A couple of the spaces include a unique multi-use, multi-media event plaza at Main and Gold. This three-dimensional urban space will be the center of event and entertainment activity and will be unlike other spaces in its variety and activity.
