Iowa State Capitol Interior Rehabilitation and Renovation

RDG coordinated all the work of the complex restoration of the interior of the Capitol building. Some of the interiors projects completed by the design team include restoring the Senate to its 1886 appearance, restoring the House to the look following its reconstruction after a 1904 fire and the law library was reconfigured to recall the original designs while incorporating modern safety features to name a few. Floors have been removed for structural improvements, all woodwork refinished, and scagliola was carefully repaired and restored. A concealed-head fire sprinkler system was also introduced throughout the Captiol's spaces. Original gas and electric fixtures were restored and wired to replicate their former effect, while new fixtures were introduced to meet the required lighting levels.
