Services provided on this project:

Architecture Overview:

The Iowa Transportation Museum purchased a group of buildings in Grinnell, Iowa listed on the national register of historic places. RDG was asked to transform an historic automobile factory site into a state-of-the-art, interactive museum and education center.

The first project determined the conditions of the buildings and provided a scheme to address the issues in all of the buildings with the funds available for the building stabilization. The plan set priorities on each issue and together with the Owner and the limited budget, choices were made to stabilize the buildings and repair the building envelope.

The historic Spaulding automobile factory will be reborn as a regional transportation museum and education center. The original character of the campus is maintained, but transformed into an array of appealing, functional spaces for exhibition of all forms of transportation, an interactive education center and a facility for administrative offices.
