Urbandale, IA
Services provided on this project:
Art Studio Overview:
Architecture Overview:
This monumental architectural icon reaches 120 feet above the Midwestern landscape and immediately becomes reminiscent of the region’s traditional silos, smokestacks, and church spires that at one time were the tallest structures of a prairie. Wrapped in a one-of-a-kind glass-tile mosaic and terra cotta frieze abstracting the native Iowa prairie, this tower becomes the centerpiece of a visitor plaza awash in dramatic sparkling light.
Lighting Design Overview:
This monumental architectural icon reaches 120 feet above the Midwestern landscape and immediately becomes reminiscent of the region’s traditional silos, smokestacks, and church spires that at one time were the tallest structures of a prairie. Illuminating the tower at dusk was integral to the project design. Lights are positioned at the plaza to evenly illuminate the mosaic at night. At the top of the tower is an 8 foot tall internally illuminated blue acrylic globe, this tower becomes the centerpiece of a visitor plaza awash in dramatic sparkling light.
