Sturgis Comprehensive Plan

Located in the picturesque Black Hills of South Dakota, Sturgis is a unique community of 6,800. It is widely known for the annual Sturgis Bike Rally during which the city’s population nearly quadruples for that one month out of the year. This has created unique development and occupancy patterns throughout the city and especially in the downtown area. The concept for Sturgis looks to build on the city’s assets and history to attract visitors throughout the year, and support diverse economic development. The land use concept identifies several new initiatives such as: new residential areas within the environmentally confined boundaries of the city, improves transportation diversity that unifies the city, and capitalizes on interstate exposure for future commercial development. The final plan will include an intense analysis of downtown Sturgis, which is a significant image center and priority area for many residents.
